Box Score
Last Wednesday night, the Tuskegee Tigerettes improved to 10-6 in 2013 as they defeated Stillman College (8-12 overall; 4-9 in SIAC) in five sets. This was the fourth five-set match for Tuskegee in the season, and they improved their record in five set matches to 3-1 on the year. The lone five-set loss for the Tigerettes was during the final match of the SIAC Volleyball Crossover in Frankfort against Benedict College in late-September.
Tuskegee (9-6 in SIAC) started and finished strong against their rival from Tuscaloosa, earning attack percentages of .400 in the first set, and .500 in the final set. But, Stillman threatened to take the match, as they had a 2-1 lead after winning consecutive sets after the Tigerettes earned a fairly easy 25-12 victory in Set #1. There were a total of eight ties and five lead changes over the final four sets, and Stillman managed to take momentum in the second set after they were able to stave off a two-set deficit by earning a four-point win in Set #2. However, Tuskegee would respond by earning a five-point win in Set #4, before winning in a blowout in the fifth and final set.
A trio of Tuskegee players all finished with a match-high of nine kills each. These Tigerettes included
Pamela Allen,
Kristal Woodard and
Cheyanne Williams.
Tanesha Foster had a match-high 19 digs, and Ashley Mason had a match-high 28 assists.
Rachel Brownlee and Allen each had match highs of four service aces a piece, as Allen also added a match-high of four blocks.
Januar Page had a team-high 16 assists for the Lady Tigers in the losing cause, while Ashlee Smith led the visitors with eight kills. Ashley Savage had a team-high of a dozen digs, while Kristie Callen and Joclyn Ramos each had a pair of blocks. Stillman's highest attack percentage came during the third set, when they were the most dominant in the match. They hit on a percentage of .333.
The Tigerettes are assured of a winning season with the victory. For their efforts, they will have the week off before they hold Senior Night inside Daniel 'Chappie' James Center on Nov. 6th. Senior night will mark the second and final non-conference match of the season, as TU will look to sweep Concordia-Selma. The regular season wraps up the following Monday, as Tuskegee will also try to sweep Stillman. The SIAC Tournament will take place later in November, as Albany State University will host the conference championship on Nov. 20th.
