TUSKEGEE, Ala. (February 18, 2014) – The Tuskegee University women's softball team (2-0) opened their 2014 softball season with a twin bill sweeping of the Lady Tornadoes of Talladega, 10-1 and 3-1 at the TU Softball Field.  Weather issues postponed the original opening-day games in Huntsville, Ala., against the Chargers of the University of Alabama-Huntsville.

Latifah Kelly (1-0), last year's ace pitcher for the Lady Golden Tigers, tossed a 2-hitter in game one, resulting in a 10-1 win.  She struck out six batters and the lone run scored by the Lady Tornadoes was unearned.

Chante Warner, who blasted a home run to center field, and Roslyn Thomas had two hits each.   Denavia Harrison and Warner drove in 2 runs apiece.   All ten of the Lady Golden Tigers' runs came in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Talladega (2-5) put across their only run in the top of the fifth inning.  The game ended in the middle of fifth inning because of the 8-run rule in women's softball.

Kelly registered the win and Iva Estrada took the loss.

Game 2:   Karisa Foye (1-0), the Lady Golden Tigers' pitching ace two years ago, returned for her junior year and faced the Lady Tornadoes (2-6) in game two.  The hard throwing hurler allowed one run on three hits to record the win.  Kristen O'Neal, Roslyn Thomas, Bria Young and Foye each had one hit.

Jamara Thomas' home run in the top of the seventh inning snapped Foye's shutout performance.  She had carved up all 23 of the Lady Tornado batters prior to the dinger.

Mandie Kinser took the loss for the Lady Tornadoes.

The Lady Golden Tigers (2-0) will travel to Alabama A&M on Wednesday, February 26 to play the Lady Bulldogs in doubleheader action, starting at 1:00 p.m. CT.
