Box Score HUNTSVILLE- The Tuskegee University Lady Golden Tigers' softball team added another notch to their historical season as they upset the number one seeded University of Alabama in Huntsville 7-5.  With the win, Tuskegee became the second SIAC institution to claim a victory in the NCAA Division II South Regionals (Albany State defeated Saint Leo 2-1 in 2013); however it is the first time in the conference's softball history that an eight seed has upset the number one seed.

A hit gave the Lady Golden Tigers their first run in the top of the second, when with the bases loaded, Precious Harris was hit by a pitch bringing Denavia Harrison across home plate. Cari Driver's single to center field pushed Cassandra Denson home. The crushing blow to UAH was Chante Warner's double to left field, earning three RBIs (Driver, Angel Crawford and Harris scored) to lift TU to a 5-0 lead.

Tuskegee didn't score again until the top of the fifth. It was here that Haley Plato plowed her way into scoring position. Kenyah Smith scored the final run for the Lady Golden Tigers on a throwing error.

In the bottom of the sixth, UAH scored their first runs of the contest. Brianna Sullivan singled to left field to put the ball in play however it was Emily Glover and Kaitlyn Bannister crossed home plate on a throwing error.

With a solid 7-2 lead entering the bottom of the seventh; TU knew they were only three outs from a major upset. Undaunted the Chargers charged back into the contest. It was in this final inning that UAH scored three additional runs.

Head Coach Edward Colvin stated, "Our young ladies played a good game today and they had confidence that we could win the game because of the confidence we brought into the game.  With the recent success in our conference tournament, we won it with a four game sweep (no loses), so they were still on a high and confidant that we could pull this off."

Harrison led the Lady Golden Tigers offensively with three hits and one run, while Warner led in RBIs with three.  Latifah Kelly (17-5) collected the win on the mound.  In seven innings, she only allowed 11 hits, five runs and three walks.

Tuskegee moves on to face the Tars of Rollins in the winner's bracket tomorrow, Saturday May 10 at noon Central Standard Time.
