ALBANY, Ga. | Rachel Brownlee and
Chelsea Azore each scored in double figures, but it wasn't quite enough as Valdosta State was able to hold on to a 57-49 victory in a game played on the campus of Darton State College.
Brownlee, a Preseason All-SIAC pick, finished with 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Meanwhile, Azore finished with 12 points for the Tigerettes.
While no other players scored in double figures,
Demetries McNealey added eight points and freshman
Ashley Johnson six in the loss.
The Tigerettes shot 35.2 (19-of-54) percent from the floor, 22.2 (2-of-9) percent from beyond the arc and 66.7 (8-of-12) percent from the free throw line.
Meanwhile, Maggie Davis led Valdosta State (1-0) with 12 points and nine rebounds, while Aaliyah Cheatham added 10 in the win for the Lady Blazers.
Valdosta State shot 43.2 (19-of-44) percent from the floor, while hitting 33.3 (5-of-15) and 68.8 (11-of-18) percent from the free throw line.
Tuskegee (0-1) returns to action against the University of West Georgia in Valdosta in Sunday afternoon, with tip scheduled for 4 pm.
