TUSKEGEE, Ala. | After two weeks off, the Tuskegee University volleyball team returned to form with a 3-0 (25,15,25-22,26-24) victory over Miles College in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) action on Monday night at Chappie James Arena.
Â
Sophomore setter
Morgan Scrivens posted her first double-double with 10 digs and 33 assists, while freshman
Jamiah Breda-Nixon posted 17 kills while hitting .278 on the night to lead Tuskegee (16-11, 12-8 SIAC).
Â
Reigning SIAC Offensive Player of the Week,
Pamela Allen added 12 kills while hitting .526; while
Donovan Wingfield added eight kills in the victory.
Â
Defensively, the Tigerettes combined for 45 digs, paced by
Zahria Radford with 14, while
Nailah Pruitt added seven. They also added eight service aces, with Scrivens and Breda-Nixon each contributing two.
Â
Janae Graham, the nation's leader in service aces, added one to her total.
Â
As a team, Tuskegee hit .231 with 44 kills (104 total attempts), while holding Miles to .062 and 19 kills (81 total attempts).
Â
The Tigerettes controlled much of the match as they jumped ahead early in all three sets, only to see Miles rally back in the third to try and force a fourth set. However, a pair of kills by Wingfield and a kill from Breda-Nixon put the match away.
Â
Tuskegee returns to action on Thursday night in a key SIAC match-up against Albany State – the regular season finale for the Tigerettes. With a win, Tuskegee will leap Stillman into the second seed from the West.
