VALDOSTA, Ga. | Tuskegee fell behind early in Saturday's elimination game to Alabama-Huntsville at the NCAA Division II South 1 Regional, and was unable to recover, falling 6-1 to the Lady Chargers at Steel's Diamond at Blazer Park.
The two teams battled through the first three innings scoreless with each having their opportunities, but Tuskegee (21-22) was unable to answer Alabama-Huntsville (40-15) after the Lady Chargers plated three runs in the fourth inning.
Karisa Foye (11-7) and Emily Glover (10-5) dueled pitch for pitch through the first three innings, keeping their opponents in check and not allowing any hits until the middle innings.
Alabama-Huntsville struck first in the top of the fourth inning using three hits and a pair of stolen bases to push across three runs. Savannah Smith got the first hit of the game for either team as she laced a single under the glove of
Roslyn Thomas.
The Lady Tigers got on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning when junior outfielder
Adrienne Eaddy picked up the first hit of the game for Tuskegee with a single to center. After reaching second on a wild pitch, she was able to score following an errant throw from UAH catcher Abby Roberts. After
Shamiah Wright swung at a ball in the dirt for strike three, Roberts sailed the ball into the outfield allowing Eaddy to score and trimming the deficit to 3-1.
Alabama-Huntsville added three more runs in the top of the seventh inning on four two-out hits, including a pair of doubles.
Tuskegee ends the season with their second consecutive trip to the NCAA Division II South 1 Regional, and back-to-back SIAC championships. The Lady Tigers bid farewell to three seniors off the team this season as
Cassandra Denson, Foye (SIAC Tournament Most Outstanding Player) and Thomas (All-SIAC Tournament) all end their Tuskegee career with back-to-back postseason appearances.
