ALBANY, Ga. | The Tuskegee University men's basketball was unable to overcome a second half run by Albany State, falling 70-56 in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play Saturday afternoon.
Camden Foster led Tuskegee (10-8 , 6-5 SIAC) with 12 points, leading three players in double figures. The junior recorded a double-double, grabbing 10 rebounds in the loss.
Kevin May and
Elijah McMillan each added 10 points for the Golden Tigers.
Tuskegee shot 30.5 (18-of-59) percent from the floor and just 9.7 (3-of-31) percent from beyond the arc. They also shot 89.5 (17-of-19) percent from the free throw line in the loss.
Devontay Ward came off the bench to lead Albany State with a game-high 21 points, while Jordan Floyd added 18.
The two teams traded baskets in the first half until Albany State was able to break away for a 16-9 lead with 9:28 to play in the half. Tuskegee fought their way back into the contest, using a 10-0 run over a six-minute to span to take their first lead of the game.
The run started after
Austin Cherry hit a pair of free throws out of a media timeout with 7:49 to play in the half, trimming the lead to 16-11. It was cut to two when
James Vinson hit an off-balance jumper in the lane, and then to one when
James Eads converted on one-of-two free throws with 4:03 to play in the half.
Following the final media timeout of the half, the Golden Tigers took their first lead when McMillan put back a missed shot with 3:30 to play in the half. Vinson hit another lay-up with 3:09 to play in the half to push the lead to 19-16 in favor of Tuskegee.
From there, Albany State took the lead with 1:13 to play when Khaliq Hughes hit a lay-up and the Golden Rams took a 24-21 lead into the locker room when Devontay Ward hit a hook shot from six feet out with 46.4 seconds remaining in the half.
Albany State was able to pull away in the second half as they built a double-digit lead with 13:43 to play in the game. The Golden Tigers were able to cut it to single digits with 10:14 to play on an
Austin Cherry three-pointer, trimming the lead to 48-39 and came in the midst of an 8-2 run by Tuskegee.
After Tuskegee was able to cut it to single digits on a
Camden Foster putback with 8:56 to play, Albany State was able to answer with a 6-0 run over the next three minutes to push the lead to 15 (56-41).
Tuskegee continued to fight to stay in the contest after Albany State hit a three-pointer with 3:09 to play, pushing the lead to 13, the Golden Tigers converted five consecutive points (free throws by May and a three from Foster) before Albany State was able to milk the final seconds off the clock.
The Golden Tigers return to action Monday night, hosting Miles College in a SIAC West Division match-up. The game tips at 7:30 pm, and can be heard on the Heritage Radio Sports Network (HSRN).
