TUSKEGEE, Ala. | The Tuskegee University men's basketball team looks to rebound from their season-opening loss this past weekend, hitting the road to face a perennial power in NCAA Division II in the University of Montevallo Tuesday night.
The game tips at 7:30 pm at Trustmark Arena on the Montevallo campus.
Tuskegee (0-1) fell in their home opener to Palm Beach Atlantic 68-49 on Friday, and were led by sophomore center
Joshua Culver with eight points and nine rebounds. The sophomore also dished out a pair of assists and blocked three shots. Fellow center,
Thomas Massey finished with seven points and six rebounds on the night as the Golden Tigers struggled from the field, connecting on just 25.8 (16-of-62) percent of their shots.
The meeting with Montevallo (1-0) will be the fourth meeting between the two schools since
Jerry Dunn took over the helm of the Tuskegee program three years ago, with the Golden Tigers holding a slim 2-1 advantage. The Golden Tigers defeated then-20th ranked Montevallo at Trustmark Arena when Culver took a rebound and beat the buzzer with 1.2 seconds remaining to help Tuskegee claim a two-point victory. Later in November, the Golden Tigers defeated Montevallo 70-64 at Chappie James Arena to sweep the season series last year.
Tuskegee played without returning starter
Elijah McMillan on Friday, and the junior is questionable for the matchup with Montevallo on Tuesday night. A pair of freshmen stepped into his place on Friday, with
Alex Perry and
Myles Thomas both starting for the first time in the opener. Thomas responded with four points and four rebounds, while Perry finished with three points and three rebounds. Junior point guard
Travis Flagg finished with five points, seven rebounds and three assists in his first game in a Tuskegee uniform.
The game will be carried on the Tuskegee Digital Network (audio only), immediately following the women's game.
