HUNTSVILLE, Ala. | The University of Alabama Huntsville Chargers completed a sweep of the Tuskegee Univeristy Golden Tigers on Sunday afternoon, winning both games of the doubleheader at Charger Field.
Tuskegee (2-5) dropped the first game 30-4 with eight different players picking up a hit in the game. The Golden Tigers were able to put together a four-run second inning, before UAH (3-3) was able to pull away in the bottom of the second inning with a six-run inning. In the four-run second,
Elgin Woodside started the inning with a single and advanced to second as
Alexander Henderson had his sacrifice bunt mishandled.
Lane Williams loaded the bases with a one-out single, before
Matthew Reed drove in Woodside for the first run of the game for Tuskegee. They added two more runs on a two-out single from
Evan Kearse, and the final run on an RBI groundout by
Samuel Glickman.
Christopher Emerson (0-2) suffered the loss, going two innings and allowing 11 runs (nine earned) off of 10 hits. Justin Cantrell delivered the key hits for UAH as he went 5-for-6 at the plate with five runs scored, four runs batted in and a triple.
The Golden Tigers dropped game two of the doubleheader 10-3, scoring a single run in the fifth off the bat of
Jalen Luter, and two in the seventh on a two-run double from Woodside.
Joseph Mauldin (0-2) suffered the loss in game two as he went four innings, allowing six runs (four earned) off of nine hits with four strikeouts.
Ricky Green worked one inning of hitless relief for the Golden Tigers. Will Myers (2-0) picked up the win in game two for UAH, working six innings and allowing one run off of five hits.
Woodside led the Golden Tigers at the plate on the day, going 3-for-8 in the two games with a run scored and a two-run double. Glickman ended the day going 2-for-5 combined with a run scored and a run batted, while Henderson went 2-for-2 with a run scored. Kearse also picked up multiple hits, as he went 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored, a pair of runs batted in and a triple in game two.
Tuskegee returns to action next week as they travel to to Fort Lauderdale, facing 13th-ranked Nova Southeastern (3-5) in a single on Friday and a doubleheader on Saturday.
