TUSKEGEE, Ala. | On a day where the Tuskegee University softball team honored their seniors and received their 2015 SIAC championship rings, the team split a doubleheader with Kentucky State University Saturday afternoon.

Tuskegee (19-29, 17-6 SIAC) dropped the opener in eight innings 4-2 when Gayla Ha-Cabebe hit a pair of solo homeruns, before the Thorobrettes scored a pair of runs in the top half of the eighth inning for the win.

Kenyah Smith led Tuskegee in the opener, going 2-for-3; while
Jamaica Williams belted her team-leading ninth homerun.

Kaylin Finch (10-11) suffered the loss in a complete game effort, allowing four runs on seven hits; while striking out a pair.

After leading for much of the nightcap, Tuskegee gave up six runs to Kentucky State (15-20, 12-11 SIAC in the top half of the sixth inning that tied the game at 7-all. However the Lady Golden Tigers answered with six of their own in the bottom half of the inning to take the lead and hold on to win 13-7.

After a one-out single by
Jasmine Howard, the Lady Golden Tigers took the lead for good on a
Chante Warner double. The inning continued with an RBI fielders choice by Williams and a two-run homerun by
Karisa Foye.

Foye (3-5) picked up the win with a complete game effort, giving up seven runs – only three earned – on eight hits. She also struck out 10.

Thomas led four players with two hits each in the win. Warner (three runs scored), Finch (two RBI) and Driver each added a pair of hits in the game two victory.
Â
The two teams will finish their series on Sunday afternoon with a single game beginning at 12 noon. Both teams will then prepare for the SIAC Championships which begin in Atlanta next week.
