Tuskegee falls in series finale against Stillman

Golden Tigers return to action Tuesday against Concordia at Paterson Field

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. | The Tuskegee University baseball team came up short in their quest to win the series against Stillman College on Sunday, falling 11-9 in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action.

Tuskegee (7-17, 5-4 SIAC) scored four runs in the eighth inning to grab a 9-8 lead over Stillman (12-21, 6-5 SIAC), before the Tigers roared back with three runs of their own in the bottom of the inning to take the lead and hold on for the victory.

Tuskegee got the jump on Stillman in the eighth on a Clinton Crews single, followed by a stolen base and a walk to Marc Kennedy. A bunt single by Evan Kearse loaded the bases with no outs, and the Golden Tigers trimmed the lead to 8-6 when Ryan Green was hit by a pitch forcing Crews home from third. Ricky Green, the next batter up for Tuskegee, was also hit by a pitch forcing another run home and trimming the deficit to just one before the Golden Tigers tied the game on a Gemini Jackson single.

Tuskegee took the lead when Alexander Henderson recorded an RBI groundout to short, giving the Golden Tigers a one-run lead.

However, Stillman came back in the bottom half of the inning, tying the game on a wild pitch and taking the lead on a two-run double from Nick Vitale for the win.

The Golden Tigers battled back much of the day after trailing 4-0 through four innings, scoring five runs in the fifth to take their first lead of the day.

Clinton Crews led the nine-hit attack for Tuskegee, going 3-for-5 on the day with a run scored and an RBI. Matthew Reed finished the day with a pair of RBI and a double, while five other players each picked up a hit for Tuskegee in the loss.

Clayton Crews (0-1) suffered the loss out of the bullpen, working 0.2 innings and allowed three runs off of two hits and allowing two walks. The bullpen worked 1.2 innings and allowed six runs off of five hits in relief of Eugene Mabota, who worked 6.1 innings and allowed five runs off of eight hits with two strikeouts.

Tuskegee returns to action Tuesday afternoon at Paterson Field, hosting Concordia College in a doubleheader beginning at 12 noon.
