The Tuskegee University men's basketball team will face Johnson C. Smith Monday night in a rematch of one of the more entertaining games that took place earlier this season. Tip off from Charlotte is set for 7:30 p.m. inside Jack S. Brayboy Gymnasium.
The last time the two teams met,
Travis Flagg scored a career high 27 points, made five three pointers and dished out six assist but the Golden Tigers dropped their home opener in double-overtime to the Golden Bulls 90-87 on Nov. 14. In that same game, Tuskegee (1-12, 1-5) saw four score in double figures including 17 points by
Thomas Massey on 5-of-11 shooting from three point range He also added nine rebounds.
James Eads added 15 points while
Jaylan Shelton chipped in 13 points.
The Golden Tigers outscored the Golden Bulls 18-8 through the first 12 minutes of the game and forced its CIAA opponent to shoot 20 percent from three point range in the first half.
Monday night TU will need to slow down the productivity from the leading scorer in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA), Robert Davis who is averaging 23 points per game and shoots just over 40 percent from the field. Davis poured in 35 points including five from downtown and converted on several clutch moments down the stretch in the double-overtime win for Johnson C. Smith (8-5-, 1-0) including a three pointer from the baseline with 11 seconds left to give the Golden Bulls a 78-75 lead.
