Softball topped by Montevallo in doubleheader

The Tuskegee University softball team dropped a pair of games Wednesday afternoon in a mid-week affair at the TU Softball Field on the campus of Tuskegee University. The Golden Tigers fell 12-4 in game one and 23-6 in game two against the University of Montevallo.

In game one, TU trailed 7-0 in the fourth inning until the Golden Tigers scored four runs in the bottom half of the same inning . Jasmyne Lawrence doubled to center field driving in Janie Weed. Moments later N'daya Jordan grounded out allowing Mason to score. Ashley Tyler capped off the inning with a two-run homerun that also brought in Lawrence, narrowing Skegee's deficit 7-4. 

The Falcons would score six more runs to end the game in five innings. 

In game two, eleven different players recorded a hit, including four with at least three hits. Haley Barnette went 3-for-5 at the plate with two home runs  and six RBI.  Saralyn Campbell was 2-for-2 today with five RBI.  The Falcons held its biggest lead 20-1 in the fifth inning until the Golden Tigers plated five runs with Lawrence, Weed and Mason all scoring.

The Falcons' pitching staff struck out six batters and allowed seven hits. Jessica Boyd (4-2) recorded her fourth win of the season in two innings pitched with no earned runs, two hits, and two strikeouts.  

Tuskegee will open a three-game slate this weekend when they host Spring Hill College. Saturday's doubleheader starts at 1 p.m. with a single game set for Sunday at 1 p.m.
