Tuskegee to meet Kentucky State in battle for SIAC West crown

TUSKEGEE, Ala. – The Golden Tigers will travel for their last road trip of the regular season with a battle against Kentucky State in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action, with kickoff set for 1 p.m. EST on ESPN+.

The two programs have met 31 total times, starting in 1907, as Kentucky State took a victory in the first ever meeting by a score of 16-0. After an eight-game losing streak to start the series, Tuskegee won 13 straight games from 1997-2010, however, fell in the last meeting in 2021 by a score of 42-35 inside Abbott Memorial Alumni Stadium.

GAME NOTES
  • A Tuskegee win over the weekend would clinch the SIAC West Division and secure a berth to the 2022 SIAC Football Championship Game.
  • Linebacker Vincent Hill (Fairburn, Ga.) was named Defensive Player of the Week, while receiver Antonio Meeks (Lilburn, GA.) was named Newcomer of the Week after the Golden Tigers' win over Lane in the Bluff City Classic in Memphis. Hill recorded 11 total tackles in his return against the Dragons after missing last week for the Golden Tigers, with nine solo stops and two assisted as well as a pair of tackles for loss in the 35-31 win against Lane.
  • Meanwhile, Meeks had his best day as a Golden Tiger so far over the weekend, finishing the game with season-highs of six receptions and 141 yards for two scores, his first of his career. The receiver also led all pass catchers for Tuskegee with a game-high 58-yard catch in the win in Memphis.
  • Quarterback Bryson Williams (Lithonia, Ga.) led the way last week over Lane, going 13-for-18 and 218 yards and three touchdowns through the air, along with a pair of scores on the ground.
  • Four receivers for the Golden Tigers have multiple touchdown receptions so far at the halfway point, with Deondre Harvey (Douglasville, Ga.) and Jordan Ogletree (LaGrange, Ga.) leading the way with three touchdowns each, followed by freshmen Corey Petty (Warner Robins, Ga.) and Meeks, both with two scores. Sophomore Keynon Webb (Lithonia, Ga.) also has a touchdown reception on the year.
  • Hill remains the leading tackler for the Golden Tigers on the year, accounting for 51 total tackles, including 35 solos. Defensive lineman Jeremy Dees (Evergreen, Ala.) is next at 42 total tackles, including 7.0 tackles for loss and two sacks, while Malik Moore (Tallahassee, Fla.) has 34 total tackles.
