Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Tuskegee wins third straight home game to open season

TUSKEGEE, Ala. – Down by one with only seconds to play, D'Anthony Pennington (Kansas City, Mo.) came up clutch with a mid-range jumper to give the Golden Tigers their third straight non-conference game to start the season, as they defeated Georgia College and State University 48-47 inside of the Daniel "Chappie" James Center.

After offsetting runs, first from the GCSU and a response from Tuskegee within the first few minutes of the game, the Bobcats went on a 10-0 run to take a 16-9 lead and later gained a ten-point lead at 22-12 at the 6:28 mark in the opening half.

Down 29-14 with just over three minutes to play, Tuskegee clawed their way back, starting with a dunk from Martez Jones (Tuskegee, Ala.) with the score at 29-14. Moments later with under a minute to play, Pennington reduced the deficit to just seven points with a three-pointer plus a foul, and the Golden Tigers closed out the half on a 14-0 run heading into the locker room.

The Bobcats ended a nearly five-minute scoreless stint early in the second half before once again holding a double figure edge at 38-26 with 16 minutes to go. However, Tuskegee responded once again, this time a 10-2 run to climb within a single score at 40-38 halfway through the second half.

The game stayed close throughout the remainder of the game, as neither team could gain a significant edge before the late shot from Pennington.

Tuskegee held GCSU to 38.8 (19-for-49) percent from the field and 25.0 (6-for-24) percent from three-point range on the day, while allowing just 19 points in the second half. The Golden Tigers finished with shooting splits of 34.0 (18-53) percent from the floor and. 27.8 (5-for-18) from deep.

Pennington led the way again for Tuskegee with 18 points, four assists and a steal, followed by Deveraux Davis (Minneapolis, Minn.) who scored ten points and three rebounds in the win.
