Tuskegee comes away with pair of conference wins on the road over Morehouse and Clark Atlanta

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Golden Tigers (7-3, 2-2 SIAC) picked up two crucial Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference wins away from home against Morehouse, 76-69, and Clark Atlanta, 72-65, in a three-day span both in Atlanta.

Tuskegee 76, Morehouse 69
In a close game throughout, redshirt senior Gregg Boyd (Seat Pleasant, Md.) led the way with a career-high 40 points to lead Tuskegee past the Maroon Tigers of Morehouse on Saturday afternoon.
 
After a six-point run from Morehouse to open the game in the Forbes Arena, Reco Hallmon (Atlanta, Ga.) put Tuskegee on the board with a jumper at the 17:36 mark. The Golden Tigers found themselves down 14-9 with 11 minutes remaining after a pair of free throws, and double figures for the first time on the next Maroon Tiger possession after giving up a dunk.
 
Morehouse stretched their lead to 21-7 with just over eight minutes to play in the half, however Boyd hit one of his seven threes on the next trip down to help climb into the deficit. Meanwhile, Devin Booker (Chicago, Ill.) cut the lead to just six points (24-18) at the five-minute mark in the first half, and the Golden Tigers continued their run to tie the game at 28-28 and take a 31-28 lead after a three from D'Anthony Pennington (Kansas City, Mo.) to beat the halftime buzzer.
 
The teams continued to battle in the second half, remaining close with matching runs. Boyd gave the Golden Tigers a 47-46 lead with just over ten to play, while Tuskegee gained the lead 51-46 with a fast break score from Chip Culpepper (Hoover, Ala.) assisted by Pennington.
 
The Golden Tigers did not surrender the lead again in the game, controlling the pace over the last part of the second half, including Boyd scoring 13 of the last 15 points. He finished the night shooting 9-for-19 from the field including making seven threes and went 15-for-16 from the free throw line along with six steals, four rebounds and three assists in the win. Meanwhile, Booker scored ten points in his season debut, along with four steals and four rebounds on the day.

Tuskegee 72, Clark Atlanta 65 (OT)
In their second game in Atlanta in three days, the Golden Tigers took down Clark Atlanta with a 10-3 overtime period to close out the game.
 
Tuskegee began the game with five straight points and an early 10-4 lead behind scores from Hallmon, Steve Dulley (Kansas City, Mo.) and Booker, however the Panthers took their first lead of the game at the 9:52 mark with a 10-3 run to make the score 14-13.
 
After a trio of lead changes, Pennington knocked down a three to regain the lead and sparked a run to gain a 31-23 lead with a just over a minute to go yet went into the half leading 31-27.

Tuskegee maintained their single-digit lead in the second half before seeing Clark Atlanta reduce the deficit to just a point after a pair of free throws immediately following the under 16 media timeout.
 
The Panthers took the lead on their next trip down with a three and held on to the slight edge until the 10:40 mark, with a pair of Tuskegee free throws tying the game at 44-44.
 
The game was tied once more with a layup inside from Martez Jones (Tuskegee, Ala.) at 48-48, before another long range three from the Panthers to retake the lead for the next few possessions.
 
The two teams traded threes a few minutes later at the 6:31 mark, finding the Golden Tigers trailing 54-53 before taking a 56-54 lead on a layup plus the foul from Hallmon with just over five minutes remaining in regulation.
 
Minutes later, tied at 59-59, a Tuskegee foul put Clark Atlanta on the free throw line with 15 seconds left, where they made one of two, followed by a pair of free throws to put the Panthers up 62-59 with four seconds to play before Booker sank a three before the buzzer to send the game into overtime/
 
The Golden Tigers used a more balanced offensive attack against the Panthers, with four players scoring in double figures. Booker led the way in just his second game this season with 20. Points, three assists and a pair of rebounds, followed by Pennington who added 12 points and six rebounds in the win.
 
Both Davis and Dulley finished with ten points, with Davis also adding three steals, two rebounds and a block, while Dulley posted seven rebounds and a pair of steals along with the double figures.
 
Tuskegee led the game in bench points at 34-27, fast break points at 8-6, points off turnovers at 25-7, and second chance points 15-9. They finished the game shooting 40.7 (24-for-59) from the field, 29.2 (7-for-24) from deep and 65.4 (17-for-26) percent from the free throw line.

Tuskegee will return home for a three-game stretch of opponents inside of the Daniel "Chappie" James Center, starting with a doubleheader against Columbus State on Friday, December 9. Tip-off for the men's game is set for 7 p.m.
