Golden Tigers advance to day two of SIAC Baseball Championship after splitting a pair of matches on Thursday

ALBANY, Ga. I Tuskegee (12-25, 9-16 SIAC) split two games on Thursday in the SIAC Baseball Championship hosted at the Paul Eames Sports Complex with a 11-10 loss to Savannah State before regrouping to defeat Kentucky State 16-3.

Savannah State jumped out to an early lead in the first game, going up 6-0 after three innings, however Tuskegee got on the board in the fourth after Corey Stallings (Richton Park, Ill.) scored on an error by the pitcher.
 
The Golden Tigers crossed the plate two more times in the sixth, as Joshua Lewis (Huntsville, Ala.) drove in Harrison Barnes (Cincinnati, Ohio) with an RBI double, followed by another double, this time from Caleb Cobb (Hockley, Texas) to score Lewis to make the score 6-3.
 
Savannah State regained momentum in the bottom of the sixth, adding five runs to go up 11-3, a score that remained until the eighth.
 
Despite an eight-run deficit in the sixth inning, Tuskegee clawed back into the game, coming withing a single run. Richard Smith (Birmingham, Ala.) drove in a pair of runs on a single down the right field line, followed by a score from Cobb on a wild pitch.
 
Mark Hatch (Chicago, Ill.) drove in Smith with a single later in the inning, followed by a bases loaded walk and the final scores on a single by Albert Gonzalez (Brooklyn, N.Y.) to drive in the final two runs, falling short 11-10.
 
Barnes led the Golden Tigers at the plate in game one, going 4-for-5 and scoring a pair of runs, while Lewis and Stallings also scored a pair of runs each. Seven batters earned a hit on the day, totaling in ten for the team.
 
Jalan Daniels (Atlanta, Ga.) took the loss on the mound, allowing four hits and ten runs over five and a third innings, striking out three. Deangelo Nowell (Atlanta, Ga.) and Maizen Price (Charlotte, N.C.) also pitched in relief.
 
Tuskegee 16, Kentucky State 3 (7 Inn.)
Tuskegee responded in the second game of the day, defeating Kentucky State 16-3 thanks to a strong start.
 
The Golden Tigers scored on a walk by Cobb in the first inning, a passed ball during Russell Coleman's (Laurel, Miss.) at bat in the first inning, a single from Barnes, and a double by Gonzalez in the second inning to go up 6-2 heading into the third.
 
Tuskegee notched eight runs in the fifth inning, led by six batters who all earned RBIs in the frame, and closed the game out with another two scores in the sixth for the final.
 
Savontae Williams (Riverdale, Ga.) earned the victory on the mound for the Golden Tigers, working seven innings, allowing three runs on five hits, striking out six and walking one.
 
Tuskegee scattered 13 hits in the game. Cobb, Barnes, and Hatch all managed multiple hits, with Barnes and Cobb each collecting three hits at the plate.
 
Up Next
Tuskegee will return to play on Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. (ET) as they take on the loser of the game between Spring Hill and Morehouse at the Gordon Sports Complex.
