Men’s Basketball earns fourth straight SIAC win on the road against Benedict

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Golden Tigers (11-4, 6-2 SIAC) picked up their fourth straight victory and second straight on the road on Wednesday evening with a 73-69 win over Benedict in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) action held inside of the HRC Arena.

Tuskegee got on the board first with a score from freshman Kusamae Draper (Conyers, Ga.) before falling behind shortly after a pair of scores on the next two Benedict possessions. Soon after, Benedict went on a significant run to gain the first double-digit advantage of the game at 19-8 at the ten-minute mark.
 
Finding themselves down 13, the Golden Tigers began to cut into the lead in the final seven minutes of the half, trialing by eight after a score inside from Deveraux Davis (Minneapolis, Minn.). A few possessions later, Devin Booker (Chicago, Ill.) hit a pair of threes that gave another spark, climbing within a point at 25-24 before hitting the locker rooms trailing 27-24.
 
Benedict extended their lead once again with a 15-4 run over the first six minutes of the second half for a score of 42-28. Minutes later, down 52-38, Tuskegee begin to bounce back, highlighted with a three from Steve Dulley (Kansas City, Mo.) hit a three at the 6:43 mark to get the deficit back to single digits, followed later with another score to make the score 56-51 with just under six to play.
 
Tuskegee continued their inspired play going forward, as D'Anthony Pennington (Kansas City, Mo.) tied the game at 63-63 with a free throw after sinking a three on the previous possession.
 
Later in the half, threes from Gregg Boyd (Seat Pleasant, Md.) and Pennington gave the Golden Tigers a 69-65 lead before finding the game tied again at 69-69. From there, Mason Green (Ellenwood, Ga.) and Boyd both sank a pair of free throws to close out the win.
 
Booker scored a team-high 14 points along with three steals and two rebounds. Boyd and Pennington were the two other Golden Tigers to finish in double figures, with Boyd adding 12 points and four rebounds, followed by Pennington with ten points and two steals in the win.

The Golden Tigers will return to play on Saturday, January 7, as they take on Kentucky State in Frankfort. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. inside of the William Exum Center.
