Tuskegee Travels East to Battle Savannah State

SAVANNAH, Ga. __ Coming off a big home win last Monday, the Tuskegee men's basketball team looks to build off its momentum as it travels to Savannah, Georgia, to take on the Tigers in a mid-day showdown on Saturday.  

The Golden Tigers defeated Clark Atlanta in the Daniel "Chappie" James Center 71-70 last week for their first conference victory of the season so far. Tuskegee looks to win back-to-back games for the first time this season at Savannah State. 

Tuskegee and Savannah State have split their last four meetings, with Tuskegee picking up an 61-41 win at home on Dec. 15, 2022.

Guard D'Anthony Pennington leads three double figure scorers for Tuskegee, averaging 15.1 points, 3.4 assists, and 1.6 steals per game. He is followed by forwards Kusamae Draper at 13.4 points and 4.2 rebounds and Martez Jones who is averaging a double-double at 13.1 points and 10.7 rebounds per contest.

One constant that has remained all season for the Golden Tigers has been its ability to battle on the glass. Tuskegee enters Saturday averaging a 5.3 rebounding margin per game, which is first in the SIAC. When it comes to offensive rebounds, the Golden Tigers are second in the conference at 13.0 per game. 

In addition to the offensive play from the trio of strong scorers, Tuskegee continues to rely on its depth for offensive production. The Golden Tiger bench is scoring 15.8 points per game. 
 
The Tigers are off to a 3-3 start through six games, winning their last contest against Kentucky State (75-65). They are led by Qua King and his 18.7 points per game to lead three double figure scorers on the year. 

King, a transfer from the University of Southwest, has scored in double figures in five of six games, as well as 20-plus points in three of the last four. Ayjay Plain averages 13.2 points, 6.0 assists, and 3.3 rebounds per game, followed by Jordan Mikel at 11.5 points and 3.3 rebounds.
