Week 5 Preview: Golden Tigers to Face Alabama A&M in Non-Conference Action on Saturday

TUSKEGEE, Ala. __ Coming off a double overtime conference win last weekend, Tuskegee will now prepare for its second road trip of the year in a battle against Alabama A&M on Saturday, Sept. 30 at Louis Crews Stadium. The game is set to kickoff at 2 p.m. CST and will be broadcast live on HBCUGo.

GAME NOTES
  • Tuskegee (4-0, 3-0 SIAC) will take on Alabama A&M (2-2, 1-1 SIAC) on Saturday, Sept. 30, at 2 p.m., inside of Louis Crews Stadium for the 52nd meeting between the two programs. The game will be streamed live on HBCUGo.
  • Alabama A&M holds a 27-21-3 lead over Tuskegee in the all-time series. The Golden Tigers took the first official meeting with a 7-0 win in 1932 and hold the longest streak between programs with a five-game win streak from 1973-77.
  • The Golden Tigers looks to start 5-0 for the first time since 2016, and 20th time in school history. The 2016 Tuskegee football team started 6-0 on the year, including a 6-1 mark in the SIAC and earning a berth to the NCAA Division II Playoffs, reaching the second round.
  • Tuskegee is 14-11 (.560) in its last 25 games in September, and 27-15 (.643) in the month dating back to the 2013 season, which includes an 9-4 (.692) home record, 10-6 (.625) on the road, and 8-5 (.615) record in neutral site games. 
  • Tuskegee is tied for the nation's lead in 4th down conversion defense (.000), blocked punts allowed (0), passes had intercepted (0), fifth in passing yards per completion (17.6 ypc), sixth in the nation in team sacks (4.0 pg), ninth in the nation in interceptions (6), and ninth in turnovers lost with just two.
LAST MEETING
  • The Tuskegee University football program went toe-to-toe with the reigning HBCU National Champions and matched them score for score but were unable to slow down a high-flying Alabama A&M offense, falling 45-35.
  • Tuskegee's offense fell just shy of amassing 450 total yards for the first time since the 2018 season opener, accumulating 443 on the night.
  • The recovered onside kick by the Golden Tigers' special teams unit was the first in a game since September 15, 2018, when it accomplished the feat at Clark Atlanta.
  • TU dominated the time of possession (42:11 to 28:33) and converted on nearly half of its third down chances (8-of-17, 47.1%).
  • The ground game proved to be effective for the second straight game as Tuskegee outgained Alabama A&M by 22 yards in the rushing department, averaging 4.5 yards per carry (165 to 143).
