TU extended its winning streak to three last Saturday by defeating Spring Hill at home in overtime, 85-77. The matchup had nine ties and 13 lead changes, but the Golden Tigers were able to pull away late and secure their seventh SIAC home win and gain sole possession of second place in the SIAC West standings.
It was another strong defensive effort that contributed to the victory as the Golden Tigers held the Badgers to 32.3 percent shooting. Tuskegee also dominated on the glass by outrebounding Spring Hill, 58-39. Three Bulldogs pulled down at least six rebounds including
Martez Jones with a career-high 18 to go along with 16 points, his 11th double-double of the year.
D'Anthony Pennington also led all scorers with 22 points, going 7-of-19 from the field and 7-of-8 from the free throw line along with dishing out five assists. Meanwhile,
Kusamae Draper and
Kevin Sesberry also finished in double figures at 14 and 11 points, respectively.
As a team, Tuskegee has shooting splits of 41.4 percent from the field and 32.0 percent from three-point range. They allow opponents to shoot 39.3 percent from the field and 32.6 percent from deep.
Central State enters the weekend at 3-22 overall and 2-16 in conference play, seventh in the SIAC West standings. The Marauders, who have dropped three straight games, trailed by seven at halftime and never could make a comeback, falling 89-77 to the Kentucky State last Saturday.
Six Maurauders are averaging at least seven points per game led by Marcus Scott V at 14.0 points per game. Willie Jackson is the second double figure scorer for CSU, averaging 11.3 points per contest.
As a team, Central State ranks fourth in the league in field goal percentage, shooting 44.5 percent from the field.
Kentucky State is currently fifth in the SIAC West standings, having just suffered its first home loss in non-conference play this past Monday at the hands of the University of Charleston.
KSU has won three of their last five, and close out the year with home games against Spring Hill before hosting the Golden Tigers in the regular season finale.
Seven Thorobreds are averaging at least seven points per game led by five double figure scorers. Josiah Mitchell leads the team at 16.8 points per game, followed by 12.8 and 11.9 points per contest. Meanwhile, Brandon Hill and Aziel Blackwell close out the double figure marks at 10.7 and 10.6 points, respectively.
