MOBILE, Ala. __ Tuskegee's women's tennis went 2-1 to start the week full of conference action at the SIAC Round-Up on Thursday, claiming wins against Lane and Benedict, yet losing to Albany State at the Copeland-Cox Tennis Center.
In both wins, it was the duos of
Dayna Jackson/
Taylor Ford and
Chloe Griffin-Harrington/
Barbara Phillips taking wins to clinch the opening point in doubles. TU won all three double pairings against Lane, as
Tanyaradzwa Kaome/
Devynn Jackson took a 6-1 win on court one in the final match.
Tuskegee 6, Lane 0
In the first match of the day, the duos of Jackson/Ford and Griffin-Harrington/Phillips both took 6-0 wins on courts two and three, while Kaome/Jackson took a 6-1 win on court one.
Phillips was also one of the five singles wins in match one, winning 6-1, 6-0 on court four. Meanwhile,
Brianna Phillips took a 6-1, 6-1 win on court three, followed by
Gabrielle Geary and
Jamiya Ivory both winning 6-0, 6-1 on courts four and five, respectively. The final point came from
Jera Hargrove at court six, winning 6-0, 6-0.
Albany State 4, Tuskegee 3
Albany State started the scoring off securing the doubles point, before four of the six singles courts went the distance, splitting sets, in a close 4-3 decision in the Golden Tigers' second game of the day.
The tandems of Kaome/Jackson and Griffin-Harrington/Phillips both ended with losses with scores of 6-3 and 6-2 on courts one and three, respectively.
Tuskegee kept it close in singles play, getting straight-set wins on courts four, five, and six, however fell on the first three courts, including two three-set losses.
Tuskegee 4, Benedict 1
The third and final match of the day against the Tigers was a strong showing to end the day, as the Golden Tigers dominated in the 4-1 win.
Jackson/Ford took a 7-5 win in doubles on court two, while Griffin-Harrington/Phillips won by default on court three. Meanwhile, Kaome/Jackson fell 6-1 on court one.
Tanyaradzwa and Ivory were the two singles wins to clinch the second win of the day for the Golden Tigers, while three pairings went unfinished.

Tuskegee is set to continue the week's action on Friday evening, March 22 to face Savannah State. First serve has been pushed back to 6 p.m. CT due to weather at the Copeland-Cox (Mobile) Tennis Center.
