Golden Tigers Swept in Saturday Doubleheader Against Spring Hill

TUSKEGEE __ Tuskegee softball fell in a doubleheader against Spring Hill (7-3, 5-1) to start Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) play on Saturday, at the TU Softball Field.

Spring Hill got on the board in the top of the first as Macy Holt crossed the plate. Tuskegee responded in the second, tying the game as Jada Chadwick scored on a single to right field by Victoria Harrison on the seventh pitch of the at-bat.
 
After a scoreless third inning, the Badgers regained the lead with a pair of hits to score two runs in the top of the fourth. The first two runners got on base with a walk and hit by pitch, followed by a single to load the bases. A double and single on the next two at-bats drove in the two scores before the end of the frame. Spring Hill extended its lead to 6-1 in the fifth pounding out six more hits and scored the last run in the sixth on a bases loaded walk in the sixth.
 
Tuskegee added its last two runs in the bottom of the fifth, as Aaliyah Byrd drew a walk to lead the bottom of the inning, before scoring on a passed ball. T'yauna Rector scored on the next at-bat on a groundout from Kaeley Roldan.
 
Kamya Hampton (7-5) began the game in the circle for the Golden Tigers, giving up six hits and five runs over four and one-thirds innings, walking two and striking out one. Caroline Clark pitched for two and two-thirds innings, allowing four hits and two runs, walking three.
 
Rector led Tuskegee at the plate, going 2-for-4 in the contest and scoring a run, while Harrison and Roldan both went 1-for-3 and drove in one run in the loss.

The Badgers scored first again in game two, as a leadoff single later led to a score on a sacrifice fly to center field for the 1-0 lead. They added another score in the second, on an RBI single to center field.
 
Spring Hill added two more runs in the top of the sixth on three hits while leaving one runner on base, followed by its final score on three more hits in the top of the seventh to take a 5-0 lead.
 
Tuskegee avoided the shutout in the bottom of the seventh, starting with Byrd drawing a walk to open the inning. She later advanced to third after an infield single from Clark and scored on a sacrifice fly from Jada Chadwick before two more putouts for the 5-1 loss.
 
Rector and Clark were the only two batters to earn a hit in the contest, while Byrd drew the only walk, along with the lone run. Katie Harris (0-2) worked a complete game, allowing 14 hits and five runs, while walking two.
