BIRMINGHAM, Ala. __ In an intense Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) battle at Bartow Arena in Birmingham, the Tuskegee men's basketball team was defeated by Miles with a final score of 67-44.
The Golden Tigers fell short, snapping their two-game win streak and bringing their record to 8-9 overall and 6-5 in the SIAC.
Tuskegee started strong early in the game, however Miles later gained control of the pace, outscoring Tuskegee 29-19 in the first half.
Despite strong individual performances, the Golden Tigers were unable to overcome the scoring efficiency of the Golden Bears. The second half saw a continuation of Miles' strong play, increasing their lead to as much as 24 points in the final minutes.
In the opening half, Tuskegee's offense struggled to find its rhythm, shooting only 28 percent from the field (7-25) and 25 percent from beyond the arc (2-8).
The Golden Tigers were able to keep the game within reach early on, with a few key moments that saw them cut into the lead.
D'Anthony Pennington made his presence felt with five points and three steals in the first half, while
Kusamae Draper added five points and two rebounds to help keep the team within striking distance. However, the team faced difficulty converting opportunities, which allowed Miles to capitalize and build their lead.
Coming out of halftime, Tuskegee struggled to close the gap, despite some positive contributions. Draper, who finished the game with 16 points, hit key shots in the second half, and the Golden Tigers worked to push the pace.
However, Miles continued to impose their will offensively, pushing their lead to double digits. Despite efforts on the offensive end, the Golden Tigers' shooting woes continued in the second half, finishing the game shooting just 33 percent from the field.
Miles was led by Chase Ballard, who posted 13 points. Alvin Miles was next with 11 points, while Najashi Tolefree and Dorian Staples added 10 points each.
As the game wore on, the Golden Bears showed their depth, especially in bench scoring, where they outscored Tuskegee 29-9.
Miles dominated the rebounding effort, especially on the offensive boards, with 17 offensive rebounds, convertin them to 10 second-chance points.

Tuskegee will remain on the road over the weekend as they head to Tennessee to take on Lane on Monday, January 27. Tip-off for the conference matchup is set for 5:30 p.m. inside of J F Lane Gym.
