ROME, Ga. __ Tuskegee women's tennis capped off an impressive performance at the SIAC Round-Up in Rome, Georgia, securing two more victories on Friday to finish the event undefeated.
The Golden Tigers swept Edward Waters 7-0 before earning a 6-2 victory over Albany State, improving their overall record to 6-3 and maintaining a perfect 6-0 mark in SIAC play.
Against Edward Waters, Tuskegee dominated from the start, securing all three doubles matches to take the opening point.
The pairs of
Tanyaradzwa Kaome and
Leiloni Payton,
Dayna Jackson and
Taylor Ford, and
Gabrielle Geary and
Gabrielle Blanks each cruised to 6-0 victories.
The Golden Tigers carried that momentum into singles play, winning all six matches in straight sets.
Blanks secured a dominant 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles, while Payton, Jackson, and Ford each recorded 6-0, 6-0 shutouts.
Kaome overcame an early deficit at No. 1 singles, rallying for a 4-6, 6-3, 10-6 victory to complete the sweep.
Tuskegee faced a tougher challenge against Albany State but still emerged with a 6-2 victory.
The Golden Tigers struggled in doubles, dropping the first two matches, but regained control in singles play, winning five of six contests.
Kaome secured a three-set victory at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 3-6, 10-5, while Blanks and Payton each won in straight sets to give Tuskegee the edge.
Ford and
Chloe Griffin-Harrington sealed the match, with Griffin-Harrington posting a flawless 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 6 singles.
With the two victories, Tuskegee wrapped up an undefeated performance at the Round-Up, asserting itself as one of the top teams in the conference.
The Golden Tigers showcased depth and consistency across all positions, with strong play from veterans and newcomers alike.
