TUSKEGEE, Ala. – The Tuskegee women's tennis team is set to return to action this weekend with two home matches at the Pepsico Tennis Courts.
The Golden Tigers will take on Georgia Southwestern in a non-conference showdown on Friday, followed by a critical SIAC matchup against Clark Atlanta on Saturday.
Both matches are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
ABOUT TUSKEGEE (6-4, 6-0 SIAC)
Tuskegee (6-4, 6-0 SIAC) enters the weekend as one of the top teams in the conference after an impressive start to their season.
The Golden Tigers are undefeated in SIAC play, but are looking for their first home win after falling to Georgia College earlier this week.
Their recent success includes dominant victories over SIAC opponents such as Benedict, Fort Valley State, Edward Waters, Albany State, and Savannah State.
Leading the charge for Tuskegee in singles competition is
Gabrielle Blanks, who remains undefeated at 6-0 in dual matches this season. She has been dominant in her matchups, consistently winning in straight sets.
Dayna Jackson has also been a standout performer, boasting a 6-2 overall singles record while holding a strong 5-1 mark in SIAC play, while
Chloe Griffin-Harrington is 6-1 in her singles pairings.
In doubles competition, Blanks and
Gabrielle Geary have been extremely strong, maintaining a 6-0 doubles record in conference play.
The pairing of Jackson and
Taylor Ford has also been solid, going 5-3 overall with a 5-1 conference record.
ABOUT GEORGIA SOUTHWESTERN (3-3, 0-1 PBC)
Georgia Southwestern (3-3, 0-1 PBC) comes into Friday's match looking to test the Golden Tigers with their depth and competitive experience.
The Hurricanes are a strong program from the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) and will provide a challenging non-conference test for Tuskegee.
The team's strengths lie in its top-end singles players, who have been effective in regional matchups this season.
Tuskegee will need to be sharp in both singles and doubles play to contain Georgia Southwestern's aggressive style and strong baseline play.
ABOUT CLARK ATLANTA (1-10, 1-5 SIAC)
Clark Atlanta (0-4, 0-1 SIAC) has struggled early in the season and will arrive at Tuskegee searching for their first win.
The Panthers have faced a difficult non-conference schedule and have yet to find their rhythm.
In singles action, Jumai Muhammed has been their most successful player, securing a win in two of her three matches.
Janae Troupe has also shown promise, particularly in the No. 4 position. However, Clark Atlanta has had difficulty securing points in the lower half of their lineup.
In doubles play, Clark Atlanta has struggled, winning just one match across all doubles pairings.
Their No. 1 doubles team of Alexandra Turnbough and Janae Troupe has picked up the only doubles win for the team this season.
Tuskegee will aim to extend their SIAC win streak and pick up a strong non-conference victory against Georgia Southwestern before turning their attention to Clark Atlanta.
The Golden Tigers have positioned themselves as a team to beat in the SIAC, and this weekend will provide an opportunity to further solidify their standing.
