Charlotte- Tuskegee's Golden Tigers demolished the Panthers of Virginia Union University, thwarting any hopes of the CIAA winning the CIAA/SIAC Challenge.
The first board of the contest came at the hands of
Graham Olatunji in the first minute of play.
David Alexander (
Camden Foster) followed with a three-point basket to take TU up 5-0. One three-pointer and lay-up later the score was tied with plenty of time remaining in the first. The lead changed several times before the Golden Tigers went on an 8-to-3 point run to end the half up by a 14-point margin.
Alexander paced the first half effort for Tuskegee with 11 points and four rebounds. Defensively
Vladmir Tilme pulled down four defensive rebounds, one steal and one assist.
The Panthers attempted to stage a comeback entering the second half, yet their efforts were cut short by the Golden Tigers' razor-sharp defense and balanced offensive attack. From the first layup by Tilme (Foster) with 19:09 remaining in the contest, Tuskegee maintained, at the very least, a six-point lead.
Muhammad Hamilton scored the final basket for TU at the free-throw line with 28 ticks remaining in the contest, as the Golden Tigers cruised to a 74-57 victory.
Alexander completed the contest with 19 points, seven rebounds, one assist and one steal, while Olatunji racked up 13 points, eight rebounds, three assists, three blocks and one steal.
TU will be back in action on December 17
th when they travel to St. Petersburg, Florida, to take on Eckerd College. Tip-off is set for 7:30 pm ET.
