Tuskegee splits with Stillman

Lady Golden Tigers pick up first win of season in impressive fashion

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. | The Tuskegee University softball got on the winning track Saturday afternoon, splitting a doubleheader with Stillman College to open Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) play.
 
Tuskegee (1-18, 1-1 SIAC) fell 2-1 in the opener despite the pitching effort from freshman Kaylin Finch. The freshman went 6.2 innings, allowing just two runs off of three hits while striking out five in the loss. She did not allow a run until the sixth, while Stillman added another in the bottom of the seventh.
 
Tuskegee's lone run came in the fourth inning, when Finch drove home the lone run.
 
In the nightcap, Tuskegee ended their losing streak with an impressive 14-1 victory over Stillman. The Lady Golden Tigers scored early and often in game two, pushing four runs across the plate in the third and three more in the fourth.
 
They were able to finish off the game with six runs in the seventh inning for the win.
 
Finch and fellow freshman Sharde Thomas picked up three hits (including two triples) in the nightcap, while Karisa Foye added a pair hits with three runs batted in. Jamaica Williams added three runs batted in, while recording a triple. Finch added a pair of runs batted for the Lady Golden Tigers.
 
Foye (1-3) picked up the win with a complete game effort. She allowed just one run off of four hits, while striking out three.
 
The same two teams wrap up the series Sunday at 12 noon in Tuscaloosa.
