JACKSONVILLE, Fla. __Â Tuskegee baseball fell 13-6 on the road to Edward Waters on Friday despite out-hitting the home team 14 to 13.
Julian Grier led the Golden Tigers with three hits in five at-bats in the loss.
Edward Waters opened the scoring in the bottom of the first thanks to a pair of RBI singles, both coming off singles to center field to go up 2-0 before the end of the inning. The Tigers added to their lead in both the second and third innings, scoring on an RBI single to left field in the second, before a pair of runs on passed balls in the third to go up 5-0.Â
Tuskegee got on the board in the top of the fourth, pounding out three hits and scoring four runs in the frame. Grier singled to start the inning, before later scoring on a groundout with runners in scoring position from
Alex Glass for the first run. Two batters later,
Ryan Morrow singled to left to drive home
Evan Jones, while Morrow scored on the next at-bat on an error, cutting the deficit to just 5-3.
Following a solo home run from Edward Waters in the bottom of the fifth, Tuskegee rallied to tie the game in the top of the seventh thanks to an RBI single from Glass to bring home Jones and
Nicholas Pratt, followed in the order by
Scott Williams, who singled to bring home Glass for the 6-6 tie. However, Edward Waters went on to regain the lead with a run in the bottom half of the frame, before completely taking control with six runs on five hits and one TU error in the eighth for the 13-6 final.
Rodney Mudd II took the loss for the Golden Tigers on the mound in the game, pitching seven innings and allowing nine runs on eight hits, striking out one and walking seven. Meanwhile,
Alandas Armistad and
Jaylen Hill combined for one inning, allowing five total hits and four runs.
Following the three hits from Grier were
Jerald Bush, Glass, Morrow, and Williams all with two hits, while Galss also drove in three runs and scored one of his own. Jones and Grier also stole multiple bases, helping TU steal four total in the game.
Up Next
The two teams will return to play on Saturday for a doubleheader to close out the three-game series. First pitch is set for 11 a.m. ET at Ridgeview High School.
