TUSKEGEE, Ala. __ Tuskegee baseball dropped both games of Sunday's doubleheader after defeating Savannah State on Friday to split the weekend series. TU took a 6-2 win in game one, before falling 13-4 and 6-1 Sunday all at Washington Field.
Tuskegee 6, Savanah State 2
The Golden Tigers topped Savannah State 6-2 to open the three-game weekend series, led by a strong eighth inning, as Tuskegee scored all six runs in the frame to take the final lead and secure the win.

Savannah State was the first on the board in the contest, crossing home in the first on a bases loaded walk, taking a 1-0 lead. The score remained the same until the Tigers added their next run in the top of the eighth, scoring on a double to center field, with the help of an outfield error.

Tuskegee took the lead, 6-2, in the bottom of the eighth thanks to singles from
Julian Grier,
Scott Williams,
Alex Glass, and
Harrison Barnes.

Jerald Bush started the inning reaching base after being hit by a pitch and later moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and third after a single from
Devon Lee. Grier later drove in both runner with a single to left, tying the game 2-2, before the Golden Tigers took the lead on a single from Williams, before scoring the additional three runs to take the win.

Rodney Mudd II earned the win on the mound for Tuskegee, surrendering nine hits and just two runs, pitching a complete nine-inning game. The right-hander struck out six batters and walked eight.

Tuskegee collected ten hits as a team, led in part by Grier with two runs batted in, along with a team-high three hits from Glass. Barnes and Bush also both collected multiple hits on the day.

Savanah State 13, Tuskegee 4
The Golden Tigers could not keep up with Savannah State and fell 13-4 in the first of two games on Sunday.

Savannah State got on the board in the top of the first inning after an error scored the first run, followed by an RBI double to score two, and a single to score two before the close of the inning, allowing the road team to jump out to a 5-0 lead.

Tuskegee was not scoreless for long, as
Ryan Morrow earned a leadoff single to left, later scoring on a double to center field from Williams.

SSU added one run in the third after a groundout to shortstop, before rallying for four runs off four hits and one in the fourth, taking a 10-2 lead.

The Golden Tigers scored their second run in the third on a groundout from Grier to score Morrow, before cutting into the 10-2 lead in the bottom of the fifth with two scores. Grier drove in Morrow once again in the bottom of the fifth followed by an RBI single from Williams to cut the deficit to 10-4, however Savannah State added another three runs in the seventh to secure the split of the series.

Lee took the loss for the Golden Tigers, pitching six and two-thirds innings, allowing 13 runs on 13 hits, striking out two and walking four. Meanwhile,
Tyee Turner worked for the remaining two and one-third innings of play, not allowing a hit, striking out one and walking one out of the bullpen.

Grier drove the middle of the lineup, leading TU with two runs batted in, while Morrow set the top at the top of the order with a team-high two hits on four at-bats.
Savanah State 6, Tuskegee 1
The Golden Tigers dropped the second game of the day and the series with a 6-1 loss to end the weekend.

The road team opened the scoring in the top of the first thanks to a pair of singles. SSU first got on board with a single to right field, scoring two runs. Soon after, another RBI single to right from D Joseph II scored the next two runs. The Tigers added another run with a sacrifice fly in the fifth, going up 5-0.

Tuskegee ended its scoring drought in the bottom half of the fifth, as Barnes and
Cayden Smith both got on base before Barnes scored on a passed ball. SSU added another run on a sacrifice bunt for the final run in the win.
UP NEXTÂ
Tuskegee will return to the diamond on Friday, starting a three-game conference series against rival Miles College. All three games will be played at Rickwood Field, with the first pitch on Friday set for 12 noon.
