Preview: Softball Doubleheader vs. Point

TUSKEGEE, Ala. __ The Tuskegee softball team will return home tomorrow for a midweek doubleheader by hosting Point for a 12 noon and 2 p.m. non-conference matchup on Wednesday at the TU Softball Field.

Tuskegee is 21-20 this season and coming off a 2-1 series win on the road over Lane last weekend. The Golden Tigers defeated the Dragons in the final two games, 8-1 and 1-0, after dropping the opening game of the series 2-1. Kamya Hampton earned two victories in the circle, and outfielder T'yauna Rector combined for four hits to help TU win the series.

The Golden Tigers' 21-20 and 11-5 overall conference record is currently tied for second in the West with Lane, five games behind Spring Hill in the standings. The team is on two -game winning streak and has won 14 of its last 20 games on the season.
 
Rector has been scorching hot at the plate this season, leading all regular Tuskegee starters with a .325 batting average, 37 hits, 30 scored runs, 25 stolen bases, and 11 walks. Second baseman Jada Chadwick is batting .310 with 31 hits, 13 doubles, 35 RBI, three home runs and 18 runs scored this season.
 
Senior infielder Jessica Morales has also been impressive in 2024. The Deatsville, Ala. product is batting .282 with 33 hits, 25 runs scored, 10 RBI and seven walks. She has also gone a perfect 22-for-22 on stolen bases.

Point is coming off a 2-2 weekend in which they were swept by Stillman in a Friday conference doubleheader, before taking a Saturday doubleheader at home against Agnes Scott by scores of 6-4 and 5-2.

As a team, the Skyhawks are batting .239 with 188 hits, 22 doubles, two home runs, 66 RBI, 87 walks, and 73 runs scored.
 
Senior Tia Coleman is one of the top hitters in the lineup, accounting for a team-best .371 batting average, 33 hits, seven doubles, two home runs, and 20 RBI. Catcher Savanna Bryant and Hannah Phillips are also batting above the .300 mark at .318 and .313, respectively.

In the circle, Point has a 6.42 team ERA and 123 strikeouts in 205.0 innings pitched. Freshman Alyssa Burrows is the Skyhawks' ace, with a 5.77 ERA in 97.0 innings pitched. She is 4-12 on the season.
