Tuskegee Drops Doubleheader at Tougaloo in Tight Non-Conference Matchup

TOUGALOO, Miss. — Tuskegee baseball battled hard on the road but came up short in both games of a non-conference doubleheader against Tougaloo, falling 4-1 in the opener and 7-6 in the second game. The Golden Tigers now sit at 2-3 overall after the tough road losses.

Tuskegee struggled to generate offense in the first game, managing just three hits while Tougaloo capitalized on timely scoring opportunities.

In the second game, the Golden Tigers led for much of the contest, putting up 10 hits and scoring in five different innings, but a late-inning surge from Tougaloo proved to be the difference.

Tougaloo 4, Tuskegee 1
Tuskegee's offense was limited throughout the first game, with their lone run coming in the sixth inning. The Golden Tigers managed just three hits, while Tougaloo scored in four separate innings to build a lead they would not relinquish.

Mikelle Mason got the start for Tuskegee and pitched 5.1 innings, allowing six hits and four runs (three earned) while striking out four. The Bulldogs broke a scoreless tie in the second inning and added single runs in the third, fifth, and sixth frames to extend their advantage.

Tuskegee's only run came in the sixth when Evan Jones reached on a single and later scored on a groundout. Defensively, the Golden Tigers committed two errors, allowing extra baserunners for the Bulldogs.

Tougaloo 7, Tuskegee 6
The second game was a much more competitive affair, with Tuskegee's offense breaking through early and maintaining the lead for much of the contest before Tougaloo staged a late rally.

The Golden Tigers finished with 10 hits but committed three errors, allowing the Bulldogs to claw back.

Tuskegee jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning after a clutch single by Jabari Johnson and a sacrifice fly from Jacobi Brooks. They extended the lead with a run in the third inning on a base hit by Ryan Morrow. The Golden Tigers added two more in the fifth after Morrow's RBI double and Brooks' single to the pitcher's mound.

Heading into the seventh, Tuskegee led 6-3, but Tougaloo capitalized on defensive miscues and strung together a series of hits to score four runs in the bottom of the frame, taking a 7-6 lead. Tuskegee had runners on base in the eighth but was unable to push across the tying run.

Ryan Morrow led the Tuskegee offense in Game Two, finishing 2-for-3 with a double, two runs, and an RBI.

Jacobi Brooks had a strong second game, driving in three runs, including a key RBI single in the fifth inning.

Collin McLain also added a two-hit performance and two RBIs in the second game.

Amare Morgan pitched 5.1 innings in Game Two, allowing four hits and just one earned run before the bullpen surrendered the lead.
