TUSKEGEE, Ala. – The Tuskegee softball team, riding a dominant 10-game winning streak, returns home for a midweek non-conference doubleheader against Point on Tuesday, March 19.
The first game is set for 1 p.m., followed by game two at 3 p.m. at the TU Softball Field.
The Golden Tigers (13-3, 10-0 SIAC) have been one of the hottest teams in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC), putting together an undefeated run through conference play so far.
Tuskegee is coming off an impressive 7-0 showing at the SIAC Crossover in Hoover, Alabama, where they outscored opponents 63-15 while securing four run-rule victories.
Meanwhile, Point University (3-17, 0-6 SSAC) enters the matchup looking to turn its season around after struggling in the Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC).
The Skyhawks are coming off a series loss to Stillman College and will seek to test themselves against a red-hot Tuskegee squad.
ABOUT TUSKEGEE (13-3, 10-0 SIAC)
The Golden Tigers have been explosive at the plate, averaging 8.2 runs per game while posting a team batting average of .354. They have showcased speed and power, leading the conference with 46 stolen bases and 10 home runs.
Alexis Thompson has been a standout performer, currently second on the team with a .476 batting average, to go along with seven doubles, two home runs, and team-high 22 RBIs. She also boasts a .786 slugging percentage.
Nylah Strange-Lindley has been equally dangerous, hitting a team-leading .550 with a .640 on-base percentage, while Ava Meredith has accounted for 14 hits and driven in 12 runs with a .368 average.
Kaeley Roldan (.276) and Caroline Clark (.538) have been key contributors in clutch moments, while the speed of Tamiya Martin (eight stolen bases) and Payton Dunham (six stolen bases) adds another dimension to Tuskegee's offense.
Tuskegee remains undefeated at home with a perfect 3-0 record, outscoring opponents 28-4 in those contests. In all of conference play, the Golden Tigers have outscored their opponents 92-25 so far.
Defensively, Tuskegee's pitching staff has been stellar, holding opponents to a .249 batting average with a team ERA of 2.57.
Monica Rose (6-1, 2.81 ERA) and Kamya Hampton (6-2, 2.37 ERA) have formed a dominant one-two punch in the circle, combining for 96 strikeouts across 95.1 innings. The duo has also tossed a pair of shutouts this season.
Tuskegee's pitching staff has held opposing hitters to a .249 batting average, while the Golden Tigers boast a .928 fielding percentage.
ABOUT POINT (3-17, 0-6 SSC)
The Skyhawks have struggled offensively, hitting .223 as a team while averaging just 2.9 runs per game.
Key contributors included shortstop Isabella Owens, who drew a walk and scored a run, and catcher Savanna Bryant, who recorded two hits and an RBI.
Despite these efforts, the team has found it challenging to generate sustained offensive momentum.
They have been inconsistent in run production but have a few dangerous hitters, including leadoff hitter Kayla Turner and power threat Emma Collins, who leads the team in extra-base hits.
On the mound, Point's pitching staff has a team ERA of 7.05, allowing 131 runs across 20 games.
Opposing hitters have capitalized on their command struggles, drawing 50 walks against Point's pitchers. However, the Skyhawks will aim to improve their efficiency against a powerful Tuskegee lineup.
