Tuskegee Track and Field Wraps Up First Outdoor Meet at Bulldog Alumni Relays

STARKVILLE, Miss. – The Tuskegee University track and field teams commenced their 2025 outdoor season with commendable performances at the Bulldog Alumni Relays, hosted by Mississippi State from March 20-22 at the Mike Sanders Track Complex.

The Golden Tigers showcased their talent across various events, setting a promising tone for the season ahead.?

On the men's side, freshman LaQuenton Underwood represented Tuskegee in the 100-meter dash, finishing 23rd with a time of 10.89 seconds.

Tuskegee's presence in the men's 400-meter dash was highlighted by the performance of sophomore Justice Northern, who completed the race in 49.45 seconds, securing the 21st position.

In the men's 800-meter run, Jayden Davidson led the Golden Tigers with a time of 1:57.29, earning him the 14th spot. Carl Richards followed closely, finishing 16th with a time of 1:58.96, good for 18th.

Davidson and Richards also represented Tuskegee in the men's 1500-meter run, finishing 19th and 25th with times of 4:13.25 and 4:17.56, respectively. Teammates Edgar Kosgei (4:18.33) and Dennis Kibet (4:26:81) both also finished in the top 35 in the event.

Kosgei and Kibet both finished in the top ten in the men's 5000-meter run, with Kosgei finishing seventh (17:16.63) and Kibet finishing eighth (18:16.21).

Sophomore Shawn Jarrett II represented the Golden Tigers in the 400-meter hurdles, finishing 13th with a time of 1:06.98.

Underwood, Norther, Jarrett II, and Ethan Zagore Jr. competed in the 4x100 relay, taking sixth with a time of 41.80.

Meanwhile, in the 4x400-meter relay, Tuskegee fielded two teams. The first team, comprising Shawn Jarrett II, Justice Northern, Ethan Zagore Jr., and Javonte Andrews, clocked a time of 3:21.04, securing an eighth-place finish.

The second team, featuring Lamont Brinson, Xavier Campbell, Keywvn Rowles, and Deinkepribo Harry, completed the race in 3:36.33, placing 11th.

KeyWun Rowles and Deinkepribo Harry both took home top 15 finishes in the high jump, with Rowles taking 10th at 1.85 meters, followed by Harry at 14th with 1.65 meters.

Tuskegee had a pair of 11th place finishes in the pole vault, with Christian Goode and Jackson Murry both recording a distance of 4.05 meters.

The women's side was highlighted by Anaya Martin, who placed seventh (20:00.39) in the 5000-meter, 22nd (2:28.84) in the 800-meter, and 28th (5:10.30) in the 1500-meter event.
 
Akierah Walker also performed in multiple events, leading Tuskegee in the 800 with a time of 2:28.25 (21st) and running a 5:10.30 (28th) in the 1500-meter dash.
 
Amira Broussard earned a top 20 finish in the women's 400-meter, taking 19th with a time of 59.69.
 
Freshmen Shalyah Tresvant and Genesis Harell performed well in the 5000-meter run, with Tresvant finishing 10th (23:05.07) and Harrell finishing right behind at 11th (23:22.78).
 
Meanwhile, Amira Broussard placed 15th in the women's 100 hurdles with a time of 15.73, followed by Jahkaya McBurney in 23rd with a time of 19.00.
 
The Golden Tigers also performed well in the 400-meter hurdles, with Asia Nettles finishing ninth (1:10.19), Broussard taking 11th (1:12.80), and McBurney finishing 12th (1:13.84).
 
Tuskegee took home a win in the women's 4x800-meter relay, where the quartet of Martin, Harrell, McBurney, and Walker delivered an outstanding performance.
 
The team secured first place with a time of 10:00.40, edging out West Georgia's squad, which finished in 10:08.29.
 
De'Shell Carr represented Tuskegee in the women's high jump, clearing a height of 1.45 meters (4' 9") to finish 10th.
 
In the women's long jump, Carr achieved a mark of 5.45 meters (17' 10.75"), placing seventh. Broussard (4.82 meters) and McBurney (4.75 meters) finished 21st and 22nd, respectively.
 
The Golden Tigers picked up three top 25 finishes in the women's javelin, as Matealia Harper took 17th at 31.14 meters, Danielle Wilson took 19th at 26.68 meters, and Carr at 23rd with 18.74 meters.
 
Up Next
Tuskegee will return to the track next weekend as they compete in the UAB Spring Invitational in Birmingham. The meet is scheduled to run from Friday, March 28 to Saturday, March 29 at the UAB Track and Field Facility.
