TUSKEGEE, Ala. — Tuskegee baseball dropped a midweek non-conference contest on Wednesday afternoon, falling 14-2 in seven innings to Point at Washington Field.
Â
The Skyhawks used a balanced offensive performance and a big sixth inning to pull away, improving to 16-25 on the season, while Tuskegee moved to 12-25 overall.
Â
Point struck first in the third inning with a run and never looked back, scoring in five of the seven frames, including seven runs in the sixth to put the game out of reach.
Â
The Skyhawks finished with 15 hits, including home runs from Arwin Burgos and Keegan Moore, and added six walks and three hit batters to extend their scoring opportunities.
Â
Tuskegee managed seven hits of their own, scoring single runs in the fifth and sixth innings.
Â
Nicholas Pratt led the way at the top of the order, going 1-for-2 with a walk and a run scored, while
Devon Lee drove in one with an RBI double in the sixth inning.
Â
James Slaughter also contributed with an RBI single in the fifth. However, the Golden Tigers couldn't find consistent offense to keep up with the Skyhawks' pace.
Â
The Golden Tigers used four pitchers in the game, starting with
Rodney Mudd II, who went three innings and allowed three hits and one earned run while striking out three.
Â
Jaylen Hill followed with two innings, giving up four runs, before
Alandas Armistad surrendered seven runs on seven hits in a rough sixth inning.
Â
Jabari Johnson finished the game on the mound, giving up two runs in the seventh.
Â
Point's offense was led by catcher Keegan Moore, who tallied four RBIs on a grand slam in the sixth inning, and Rafael Jackson, who went 2-for-5 with a double, triple, and two RBIs. Arwin Burgos also went deep, finishing with two hits and two RBIs.
Â
The Skyhawks also received strong contributions from Daniel Gonzalez, who went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs, while Brady Bye reached base three times and added a steal. Sam Baker doubled twice and drove in a run as part of a 2-for-4 day.
Â
On the mound, Houston Wedgeworth earned the win for Point, working five innings and allowing one run on six hits, striking out three.
Â
He was followed by Garrett Mullins and Cooper Hack, who each pitched one inning and held the Golden Tigers scoreless in the final frame.
Â
Defensively, Tuskegee committed two errors, while Point turned a pair of double plays to stall Golden Tiger rallies.
Â
Tuskegee also stranded four runners and was caught stealing twice in a game that saw Point limit their offensive chances.
