Men’s Tennis Splits Day One at SIAC Round-Up with Strong Win Over Fort Valley State

MOBILE, Ala. — The Tuskegee men's tennis team opened day one of the second SIAC Round-Up with a split in conference play on Friday at the Copeland-Cox Tennis Center.

The Golden Tigers dropped their opening match 6-1 to Spring Hill but bounced back strong to secure a 5-2 win over Fort Valley State to close out the day.

Tuskegee now sits at 6-6 overall on the season and improves to 5-2 in SIAC competition.

Spring Hill 6, Tuskegee 1
In the morning session against Spring Hill, Tuskegee struggled to find rhythm against a strong Badger lineup, falling behind early in both doubles and singles play.

The doubles pairing of Zamani Moyo and Symon Brown came away with the only highlight of the round, earning a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles.

However, Spring Hill took the remaining doubles matches to clinch the point heading into singles action.

The Badgers carried their momentum into singles play, taking five of six matchups. Kevin Eutsey was the lone singles victor for Tuskegee, battling to a 5-7, 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles.

Despite hard-fought efforts from teammates Moyo, Ty'lon Miller, and Miles Wilson, the Golden Tigers came up short, as Spring Hill pulled away with a commanding team victory.

Tuskegee 5, Fort Valley State 2
Tuskegee flipped the script in their second match of the day against Fort Valley State, delivering a poised and balanced performance across both doubles and singles play to earn the 5-2 victory.

The Golden Tigers got off to a hot start in doubles action, winning all three matches to clinch the opening point.

The tandem of Eliyahu Pinkney and Tyler Ladge earned a 6-3 in at No. 1, followed by Eutsey and Wilson as well as Brown and Moyo with solid 6-1 wins on courts two and three.

In singles play, Tuskegee extended their lead as the team continued their stellar play with dominant 6-0, 6-0 shutout wins at No. 3 and No. 5 singles from Torain Alleyne and Eutsey.

Miller also impressed, defeating his opponent 6-1, 6-0 at No. 6 singles to keep the pressure on the Wildcats.

Moyo also rebounded from his earlier loss to post a convincing 6-1, 6-1 victory on court one.

With the bounce-back win, Tuskegee picked up its fifth conference victory of the season and built valuable momentum heading into the final day of Round-Up play.
