Collin Briggs was a member of the Tuskegee men's basketball team from 1938 to 1942.
He received numerous awards in basketball from Tuskegee as well as the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC). Upon graduation from Tuskegee, he furthered his education by attaining degrees from Texas Southern and Prairie View A&M Universities.
Briggs went on to become one of the most successful high school basketball coaches in Texas history. He coached 13 state championship teams and three state finalist teams at Wheatley High School during his 23-year career in the Houston Independent School District. His cumulative record was 608 victories and 55 losses, including the first two state championships after integration in 1968 before he retired in 1978.
Affectionately known as "Scamp" by his buddies, Briggs received the outstanding achievement award from Tuskegee University in 1973 and numerous others including the Kappa Alpha Psi Achievement Award, Texas Sports Writers Association Award and Special Citations from the Texas State Teachers Association and the Houston Principals Association.
