Hall of Fame
John Armstrong, a native of Daytona Beach, Florida enrolled at Tuskegee University on a fouryear athletic scholarship in football in 1967.
He attended Tuskegee University from 1967-1971 where he was a three-year letterman in football and was a member of the undefeated 1967-68 Golden Tigers. He was a starter at the position of offensive guard for more than two and a half years, winning the SIAC Championship all four years. In the fall of 1968, he pledged Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Gamma Epsilon Chapter.
John graduated in 1971 from Tuskegee Institute with a Bachelor of Science in Business Management. John accepted a job with Bristol Labs in Syracuse, New York as a Buyer. Three years later, he accepted the position as Senior Buyer with Allied Chemical in Macon, Georgia. In 1985, John joined Lockheed Martin Purchasing Department and was recognized as Buyer of the Month on numerous occasions. In 2016, he retired as a Sub Contractor Administrator.
John performs selfless community service and has provided financial support for Habitat for Humanity, Meals on Wheels, and Hosea Feed the Hungry. He is a monthly sustained financial contributor to the Atlanta Community Food Bank, Atlanta Mission, and St. Jude Research Hospital. John is a member of Friendship Community Church in College Park, Georgia where he supports the Food Ministry and is a member of the Trustee, Amicable Usher, and Sports Ministries.
John is an avid supporter of Mother Tuskegee as a sustained monthly contributor. He also makes individual contributions to the Athletic Department to include a special donation to upgrade the Tuskegee University baseball field. John is a member of the Atlanta Tuskegee Alumni Club (ATAC), Tuskegee University National Athletic Association (TUNAA), “Adopt a Dorm Program”, and the Tuskegee Athletic Legacy Walkway (see John Armstrong brick in front of Logan Hall). He also provides contributions through his fraternity line brothers (“Soulful 23”).
John resides in Fayetteville, Georgia with his wife, Elizabeth Armstrong. They have two sons, Kevin, and Retired Naval Commander Derick Armstrong, and three grandchildren, Andrew, Sydney, and Addison.
